Introduction to Christian Apologetics

Taught by Bob Vanderwilt

No charge, Room: H182

In this course we will explore the definition and meaning of apologetics, examine different world views, and search out evidence in support of the validity of the Christian faith. We will attempt to develop and enhance our ability to give a valid defense of what we believe to be true.

…and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you… (1 Peter 3:15)

Through reviewing reference materials, readings, and ample discussion, we will examine the evidence on topics such as:

  • the definition and nature of “apologetics”.
  • the existence of God.
  • various “world views” and how God is viewed in these various “world views”.
  • the reliability of the old and New Testaments.
  • the “historicity” of Jesus.
  • the evidence regarding the validity and implications of the resurrection.
  • discussing commonly asked questions raised by cynics.

Biblical Theology

Taught by Al Green

No charge, Room: H183

“What we think dictates the way we live.  What you believe determines who you are and what you do.  It drives your every move, thought, decision, action and reaction.  It determines how you view life and the things around you.  It is your worldview, your doctrine.  In short, everyone has a doctrine, so we better make sure we know what it is we believe and why!”   This quote from “Why I Believe Ministries” underlines the necessity and importance of studying Biblical Theology.

Jesus gave to the church, “some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, for the training of the saints in the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ.  Then we will no longer be little children, tossed by the waves and blown around by every wind of teaching.”  Ephesians 4:11, 14

It is our desire to fulfill this ministry, as a church, to you through the study of Biblical Theology, as presented in the Baptist Faith and Message.  But we do not intend it to be a sterile intellectual study.  We will discover these foundational truths of our faith couched in the everyday conversations and activities of our Savior and His disciples recorded for us in the Gospel of John.

McGregor Men: LOGOS – A Study In The Book Of Daniel

No charge, Room: H100

Does the book of Daniel have any significance for us today? Or is it simply a good book for children’s stories like “Daniel in the Lion’s Den”?

Daniel—the teenager who had been taken captive—came to realize that God was miraculously working with him, and not only to preserve his life. God was revealing through him major prophecies of future world-ruling empires.

As a resident of the world’s premier capital city and an honored wise man in King Nebuchadnezzar’s court, Daniel demonstrated God’s superiority over the pagan gods of Babylon. He also left a legacy of faithful obedience to God in spite of grave trials and difficulty. The book of Daniel has continuing relevance to us today.

In spite of our failures and wanderings, God is anxious for us to desire Him and come to Him. The purpose of this Bible study is that you might come to know Jesus more intimately than you do at this very moment.

If you are to know and experience all that God has for you, then your next step is to earnestly seek Him. The dictionary defines “earnest” as “intensely serious; with determination.” I invite you to an incredible journey with God that simply begins by waking each day with a serious determination to seek Him through reading His Word and talking to Him
