Prospective Member Class
Our church membership process is an open and transparent look of what church membership means to our congregation. The membership process is comprised of three basic steps: The first step is to attend a Prospective Member Class. In this relaxed Sunday morning class, you will get to hear about who we are, what we believe, and how we operate. As you learn about McGregor, we encourage you to ask questions during the class. By the end of the class you will have the option to let us know if you would like to continue the membership process by taking the next step with us.
The next step after the class is to have an informal interview with some of our church Elders. During this step, our Elders will schedule a time to sit and hear more about you and your desire to be part of our church. As the conversation continues, the Elders will help answer any other questions you have, discuss salvation, baptism, and the final step in the process. This membership interview has a familial tone to it, not an interrogation. Our desire is to get to know you.
As an Elder-led Congregational body of believers the final step of the process may sound a little unique. Each prospective member that goes through the class and has an Elder interview will then be considered by the Elders in order to recommend a prospective member at a Sunday night Member Meeting. Prospective members are presented at that time by the Elders to our current members, who in turn, have the opportunity to vote to approve the membership recommendation of the Elders and welcome them into the McGregor Family.
If you are considering church membership, our hope is that you will appreciate the time and care put into this process of membership. Meaningful church membership is highly valued and we welcome you to take the first step and learn more in person.
Below you will find two items to read over before the class:
1) Our Church Constitution
2) Our Statement of Faith, “The Baptist Faith & Message 2000.”
You won’t need to bring these printouts with you because they will be included in your Prospective Member workbook, but certainly bring your Bible & your questions with you. If you don’t have a Bible, we will happily give one to you that morning as a gift. Before your membership interview with the Elders, you will be asked to affirm that you have read our Church Constitution and our Statement of Faith.
Remember, we will take several breaks throughout the morning. Our last break will be about 12:15 PM to relocate the class for lunch and at that time, parents with kids can go pick them up to join us for lunch. Pastor Russell will be with us during that time hosting the last session. We will be done by 1:00 PM.
